The record
Local surfers built the first Windansea shelter in 1946–47 using eucalyptus branches and palm fronds. It has been rebuilt many times since. The City of San Diego added it to its historical register in 1998.
The print keeps the shelter small against the rocks, sea and sky. Its open sides and palm roof are the details that make it recognisable.
What this print shows
The palm canopy is treated as one ochre shape while the four supports stay narrow and open. Golden rock carries most of the foreground, and blue-gray and green planes mark its breaks without reproducing every ledge.
Buildings remain small at the upper edge, and the Pacific opens to the left. The large sky allows a handmade structure of very modest scale to hold the composition.
