The record

At Padang Padang in southern Bali, steps pass through a narrow gap in the rocks above the beach.

The print begins inside that passage. Ochre walls fill both sides, while the steps run through patches of light and shade towards yellow sand and turquoise water. Most of the sea is still hidden by the rock.

What this print shows

I kept the passage larger than the beach. That imbalance makes the first glimpse of water do the work. Warm rock planes press inward, the steps alternate between sun and shadow, then the view releases into pale sand and layered turquoise. The stairs are empty, and signs, rails and visitors are omitted so the geometry remains legible from across a room.
