The record
Unstad’s coastal valley in Lofoten is a farmed landscape. The fields and settlement are documented in Vestvågøy’s cultural heritage plan.
The print shows rectangular fields behind a crescent of pale sand, with steep green slopes enclosing deep blue water. Buildings and surfers are left out, but the cultivated ground remains part of the view.
What this print shows
Steep yellow-green and gray slopes form an amphitheater around the bay, closing the fields and shoreline into one compact room. Four small cream clouds balance that weight. They cross a much brighter sky.
The shoreline is reduced to one clean arc. Fields become large olive, ochre and tan rectangles, and individual waves disappear. The result identifies Unstad through enclosure and land use rather than action.
